Whether you are a victim of sexual assault, know someone who is, or just want to see a change made in societies view of rape, you are welcome to come.
When: Saturday October 22 at 2:00 PM
Where: Meet up at Tempe Beach Park, intersection of Rio Salado and Mill Ave. We are walking from the beach park down Mill to University and back. Speakers at the Beach Park after the walk.
What is it?: Slutwalk is a grassroots global movement against intolerance, slut shaming and victim blaming of survivors of sexual assault.
How it started: On January 24th, 2011 a Toronto police officer gave insight into the force’s view of sexual assault by stating: “Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized”. Slutwalk educates that clothing and victim behavior are not responsible for sexual assault and rape. Rapists are.
What to bring: Sunscreen, water, a sign if you like and friends. We will have cardboard and paint available at the beach park before the walk for those who would like to make a sign. Everyone is welcome!
We need to start teaching…
“DON’T RAPE” and not “DON’T GET RAPED”
